Creating and art or photo wall
Making a photo or art wall doesn't have to be hard. It all comes down to spacing and style. When I first start I often lay things out on the floor so I can get a sense of how it will all come together on the wall. You can keep a monochrome look, like a simple black frame and black and white photos. You can do all photos the same size or mix it up with a variety of sizes. The fun part is that the possibilities are endless.
This wall has been a work in progress since we moved into our home 15 years ago. I thought about using chalkboard paint on the entire wall and had visions of us leaving cool quotes or sayings, our daughter drawing pictures on it. Needless to say that never happened. My husband thought it would be too messy and I know that no one would have participated in the "fun" and then it would have felt more like work vs the vision I had in my head. So here we are, 15 years later and I like where it's going.
I was in HomeSense just this past week and saw this awesome plywood surfboard. I have secretly wanted one for the past year for our home on Cape Cod. I purchased the one pictured above to paint it. Now after moving it to this back area of the house.....I love it as is. I think I've found its new home.
The other part of this is that I started painting. It has been a fun way to add some pops of color and interest to our home and it gets my creative juices flowing. One of my paintings even made its way to our teenage daughter's room....I am counting that one as a win. By making my own "art" I was able to add some color and interest to the area at a low cost. I also updated the photo in the frame to one of my favorite sunsets at the Cape. I might add one more picture to the top left, but I am on the hunt for the right photo and frame. To be continued.
Want to create a photo or art wall in your home? Need some help to make it happen? Just let me know! Trust me you won't regret it! Later this week I will share some updates I made to our bedroom furniture (Hello 1998!). I can't wait to connect again soon.
