Style Pt. 2-Personal Aesthetic
Merriam-Webster defines aesthetic as: A particular taste for or approach to what is pleasing to the senses. Simply put: Your aesthetic is your personal look-it is about how you approach things, and what you believe is beautiful and compelling. When I was in middle school Reebok came out with a line of high-top sneakers that came in 3 unique colors, one of which was banana yellow. I had to have them! I can still remember the day my mom drove me to the mall with the babysitting money I had saved so that I could buy them. It was such a good day! I have quite a few distinct memories like this, I think about why they might be so memorable to me? I went through a pretty significant “ugly duckling” stage (at one point I was all arms and legs). I loved shopping and it was something I did with my Mom-I think I was in 8th grade and performing in a big concert and we went shopping for a new outfit, it was when I got my first pair of high heels. They were amazing and I remember feeling so grown up-wool mid-length pink pleated skirt with a beautiful pastel angora sweater.
I could keep going on and on…..bottom line I do believe what they say about building from the basics both for your wardrobe and for your home and then layer from there. The great thing now is that rules don’t apply…or at least I choose not to follow them. Life is too short and I want to live and wear what I love. I look forward to connecting again soon.
